
The 5th form of NavDurga, Devi Skandamata is worshiped on the fifth day of Navratri puja.
She is worshiped as the mother who opens the doors of salvation. Hence, the fifth day of Navaratri is the day of Goddess Sakandamata. The term Sakandamata signifies that she is the mother of Lord Skanda, also known as Lord Kartikeya. Goddess Skandamata mounts on the ferocious lion. She carries baby Skanda with six faces on her lap. Lord Skanda is also known as Kartikeya and brother of Lord Ganesha. Goddess Skandmata is depicted with four hands. She carries lotus flowers in her upper two hands. She holds baby Skanda in one of her right hand and keeps the other right hand in Abhaya Mudra. She sits on lotus flower and because of that Skandamata is also known as Goddess Padmasana.
